Summary:The aim of this study is to explore factors that would motivate nurse midwives to work in the maternity ward. A qualitative method of research will be used as a research design. In addition, the following are the objectives of the study; to assess the knowledge of nurse midwives on motivation, to assess attitudes of nurse midwives towards work motivation, to assess perceptions of nurse midwives towards work motivation and to assess job satisfaction of nurse midwives at Ntcheu District Hospital. Additionally, purposive sampling will be used to select the participants. Ten nurse midwives will be interviewed face to face between 45 minutes to I hour using a question guide with both open and closed ended questions to collect data; however a pilot study will be conducted first at Bwaila Hospital. After data analysis a report will be written. A copy of a report will be submitted to Faculty of Kamuzu College of Nursing.
