description | Depo-Provera also known as "DMPA or depot medroxyprogestorone Acetate" is the most
popular contraceptive in Malawi. In 2009 at Area 25 health centre, 16030 women chose Depo-
Provera, giving a percentage of 98.2% (Area 25 health centre statistics). Out of these Depo
Provera users, more women have some menstrual problems, including irregular and unpredictable bleeding or spotting, an increase or decrease in menstrual bleeding or no bleeding
at all. As women continue using Depo-Provera, fewer have experienced irregular bleeding and more experience amenorrhea. Therefore, it is necessary for the researcher to explore the experiences of these Depo-Provera users. The main objective of the study is to explore the experiences of Depo-Provera users on amenorrhea at Area 25 health centre. A lot of literature has been documented pertaining to Depo-Provera; however, it has been found
that no study has been done to explore the experiences of women on amenorrhea. Health Belief Model is the theoretical framework that has been used in this study.
