Summary:Health care workers across the world face so many problems and one of the problems is that of occupational exposure to needlestick injuries and blood body fluids. Several studies have shown 1 that needlestick injuries are putting health care workers at risk of contracting HIV and Hepatitis. However, there is no publication of this kind in Malawi this is why the researcher thought of doing a research on occupational exposure to needlestick injuries and blood body fluid among healthcare workers at Mzuzu central hospital. The main objective of the study is to determine the occurrence of needlestick injuries and blood body fluid exposure among health care workers the purpose of the study is to know the extent of sharp injuries and blood body fluid exposure. It will be conducted at Mzuzu Central Hospital as proposed in the topic. It is a quantitative descriptive study that will target Nurses, Doctors, Laboratory officers, Dental officers, Clinical officers, Medical assistants, Auxiliary nurses, and Hospital attendants. A questionnaire will be used to collect data from the participants. Permissions to the study will be sort from the Kamuzu College of Nursing Research and Publications Committee, The Mzuzu Central Hospital and lastly consent will be sort from study participants. The data shall be kept confidential by keeping it in hidden rooms to avoid other people accessing it. Questionnaires shall be burned after processing data. A sample of 100 will be targeted and data will be analyzed using statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) since the sample is big.
