description | The topic under study was knowledge and perception of Roman Catholic mothers towards the use of Natural Family Planning methods. The researcher was interested to conduct this study since the Roman Catholic doctrine opposes the use of artificial methods for family planning but some Catholic members go to family planning clinic to get these methods leaving out natural methods. The purpose of this study was to describe the knowledge, perception and factors that hinder Roman Catholic mothers from using Natural Family Planning methods (NFP). The study was conducted at Kawale Health Centre using a qualitative research design. A sample of 10 Roman Catholic mothers were selected using purposive sampling technique then were later interviewed using an interview guide. The data was analyzed manually. Of 10 respondents in the study, 20% ever used the NFP methods then later stopped and 80% never attempted to use such methods even though all respondents ever heard about NFP methods. The results also revealed that all the respondents do not use NFP because they don't have much information about the methods, fear of getting unplanned pregnancies, some did not enjoy sex when using some methods like coitus interrupts and that NFP methods are not trusted. The results further showed that majority of the respondents have negative feelings about the NFP methods as only 2 out of 10 respondents supported the utilization of the methods. The researcher concluded that adequate and correct information is paramount to scale up the utilization of NFP methods among the Roman Catholic members and the information should target both women and men because issues of family planning is a responsibility for both husbands and wives. |
