Sammanfattning:This was a qualitative study which aimed at investigating women's knowledge and perception on effects of vaginal douching at Kawale. The study used the health belief model to provide a theoretical framework. 10 participants were recruited for the study and these were women who attended Kawale Health Centre. Data was collected using a semi-structured interview guide. The study revealed that vaginal douching is practiced by women in Malawi. Those who practice start after menarche or after marriage. Many women are not aware that they are effects of vaginal douching. There are some cultures that encourage the practice. There are also some cultural beliefs associated with the practice. The results will help health workers to find ways to let women know about douching and its effects so that women should make informed choices.
